For the second consecutive year Central West College of TAFE has claimed the title of Western
Australia’s Large Training Provider of the Year.
This prestigious award is one of several categories of the Western Australian Training Excellence Awards coordinated annually by the Department of Education and Training.
The awards are open to all Western Australian registered training organisations and TAFE colleges.
To win this award the first time was a huge accomplishment for a smaller regional College but to win again this year is much more rewarding.
Managing Director Mr Wayne Collyer said “The large training provider award recognises the college’s commitment and professionalism to all levels of vocational education and training across the central west.”
“It is not well recognised the college’s excellent record in providing VET in schools, and university programs to our community. Our staff are to be congratulated for their innovation, flexibility and conscientiousness in delivering these programs.”
The College was also a finalist in three of the other six categories it was eligible to enter.
In the individual categories multimedia lecturer Nicci Illingworth was a finalist for Trainer of the Year, and Diploma in Design student Lauren Bovell was a finalist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander of the Year category.
The College’s ‘Launching Pad’ project identifying training opportunities and programs for culturally diverse communities in Geraldton was a finalist in the Access and Equity category of the Awards. Managed by the College’s commercial arm (ITN) this project worked mainly with the local Filipino and Cocos Malay groups.
The College will now go on to compete for the title of Australian Large Training Provider of the Year in the national awards on the Gold coast at the end of November.
